How to do Treadmill Incline Walk

Setup

Step onto the treadmill and set an incline between 5-15% depending on your fitness level. Start with a walking speed of 2.5-3.5 mph while holding the handrails briefly for balance.

How to do it

  1. Keep your torso upright and avoid leaning forward into the incline
  2. Take shorter, quicker steps rather than overstriding up the incline
  3. Let go of the handrails once stable and swing your arms naturally
  4. Push through your entire foot with each step, engaging your glutes and hamstrings
  5. Maintain steady breathing and a consistent pace throughout

Watch out for

  • Holding onto the handrails constantly, which reduces calorie burn and muscle engagement
  • Leaning too far forward or backward instead of maintaining an upright posture
  • Setting the incline too high and having to hold on for support or compromise form
