How to do Diamond Push-Up

Setup

Start in a standard push-up position, but place your hands together directly under your chest with your thumbs and index fingers touching to form a diamond shape. Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels with feet together or slightly apart.

How to do it

  1. Keep your elbows tucked close to your sides as you lower down, not flaring out wide
  2. Lower your chest toward your hands until your chest nearly touches the diamond
  3. Press through your palms to drive back up, fully extending your arms at the top
  4. Maintain a rigid core throughout by squeezing your abs and glutes
  5. Keep your head neutral by looking at the floor about a foot in front of your hands

Watch out for

  • Letting the elbows flare out to the sides instead of keeping them tucked, which reduces triceps engagement
  • Sagging the hips or piking them up high, breaking the straight body line
  • Not going deep enough or bouncing at the bottom instead of using controlled movement
