How to do Seated Calf Raise

Setup

Sit on the calf raise machine with the balls of your feet on the platform and your toes pointing forward. Position the padded lever across your thighs just above your knees, releasing the safety bar.

How to do it

  1. Lower your heels as far down as possible to get a deep stretch in your calves.
  2. Drive the balls of your feet into the platform to raise your heels as high as you can.
  3. Squeeze your calves hard at the top position for a brief pause.
  4. Control the descent back down rather than letting your heels drop.
  5. Keep your core stable and avoid bouncing at the bottom.

Watch out for

  • Using momentum by bouncing out of the bottom position instead of controlled reps.
  • Cutting the range of motion short by not lowering heels fully or raising all the way up.
  • Placing the pad too far forward on the thighs, causing it to slip during the movement.
